Fast track dragline project
Weir Oil & Gas Edmonton have successfully
secured a contract with Bucyrus International Inc., a world leader
in the design and manufacture of surface and underground mining
excavation equipment. The manufacturing process started on an 8750
model dragline within the Highvale mine in January 2008 which is
the largest surface strip coal mine in Canada, covering vast areas
of land and producing 13 million tonnes of coal annually. Low
sulphur coal is delivered to TransAlta utilities for thermal power
generation. Weir Oil & Gas Service Edmonton will field machine
horizontal and vertical bores that will allow the completed
dragline to be assembled on site. The Weir project team consisting
of a project manager and eight machinists is on target to complete
the fast track project ahead of schedule.
