North Sea Success with Nexen

Weir Oil & Gas Services, Aberdeen have signed a five year contract with Nexen Petroleum UK for the provision of pump management services for the Scott and Buzzard fields in the UK Continental Shelf.

The Buzzard platform produced first oil in January 2007, and is one of the largest North Sea discoveries in the last decade. It is designed to produce approximately 200,000 boe/d at its peak. In its first year of operation, with the support of Weir Engineering Services, Buzzard achieved first quartile uptime performance for a new offshore facility in the UK North Sea.

Scott was discovered in 1987 and began producing in September 1993, while Telford was discovered in 1991 and came on stream in 1996. In recent years, the Scott platform underwent a significant maintenance turnaround and facilities upgrade to improve reliability and extend facility life.

The major factors that secured the agreement included strong commissioning and start up support for the Buzzard Project, creation and management of robust sparing strategies, quality of work, and first class engineering support.
